Recreation Committee read the Recreation Director’s Report. Mr. Adams verbally
added that Rob Ketcham has already installed 1 of 2 sky lights in the bathhouse
at the Recreation Area and he was working collecting prices on lumber and paint
to be able to finish the project. The issue of what to do with the concrete
walls in the bathrooms was discussed. It’s the feeling of the Recreation
Committee and Recreation Director that something should be done to the walls
before they are painted to give them a smoother and clean look. Mr. Ketcham
noted that the center concrete wall may be already have “stuck-o” &
paint on it. Mr. Adams said that he couldn’t recall what that exact wall
looked like, but said he would look the next time that he is at the Recreation
Area. OLD BUSINESS 2004/2005 Work Plan Mr. Adams presented a draft copy of the 2004/2005 Work Plan that he will presenting to the Board of Selectmen at their meeting on September 15, 2004. He stated that he had been asked by Mr. Balch to include more detail about the programs the Recreation Department plans to offer for the remaining FY 05 to give the Selectmen a better idea as to what the Recreation Department will be doing over the next 9 months. Recreation
Committee Vacancies Mr.
Adams informed the Committee that the Town had not received any “Letters of
Interest” for either of the two vacancies on the Recreation Committee. The
August deadline come and went with minimum action. Mr. Adams noted that he has
advertised the openings in the Fall Brochure and also posted them in the Town
Marquees. To spur more interest he asked everyone to talk up the Committee to
the people they come in contact with. The next deadline for Recreation Committee
Letters of Interest to be received is Friday, October 29, 2004. NEW BUSINESS Scott
Eugair, Mighty Mites Baseball Coach NOTE: The spring of 2004 was very cold and wet. According to the rainfall
meter at the Pittsford Wastewater Plant over 8” of rain fell during the month of May ’04. (In May of ’03
only 4.35”, about half.) Coach
Eugair attended the meeting to discuss his feelings about Memorial Field (Lower
Rec. Field). Most of his home games, during the months of May and June ‘04,
that were originally scheduled at Memorial Field were either postponed or moved
to one of the two upper fields at the Recreation Area due to Memorial Field
being too wet to play on. He suggested that work needed to be done so that the
field would drain better. Mr. Eugair mentioned different ways the work could be
completed such as a volunteer work day or weekend. He stated he knew plenty of
people who would like to see improvements made and are willing help out. Mr.
Eugair was informed of the Recreation Department’s Work Plan for FY 05 which
stated that they were finish both the upper fields by cutting the infield in on
the 2nd baseball field and would be putting in protective fences in
front of the bench areas on both fields, before they did anything with Memorial
Field. That way when any work was approved to be done on Memorial Field there
would be another location to practice and play games while the work would be
completed. With
no further business to discuss, Scott Kirby made the motion to adjourn the
meeting. Kathy
Shortsleeves seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. The
meeting adjourned at 8:20pm. Respectfully
submitted, ___________________________________
