PITTSFORD
RECREATION DEPARTMENT Meeting was called to order by Rob Ketcham 6:40pm. Members of
the Recreation Committee who were present include Mark Poljacik, Scott Kirby,
and Kathy Shortsleeves. Recreation Director Randy Adams was also present. Recreation Committee members Kelly Carter and Eric Stage were
not present. ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES The minutes of March 10, 2004 were read and accepted. Scott
Kirby made the motion to accept the minutes as read. Mark Poljacik seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously. RECREATION DIRECTOR’S REPORT The Recreation Committee read the Recreation Director’s
Report. There were no comments. OLD BUSINESS Playground Equipment The purpose of holding
the meeting at the Recreation Area was so that the Recreation Committee could
get a clear picture of the lay out of the Recreation Area in order to decide
where to locate the new playground equipment. After some discussion, it was
decided that best location to place the “new” equipment would be between
the volleyball court and the bath house, making certain to stay a proper
distance away from the water line that feeds the bath house. It was the
consensus the Recreation Committee that this location would best serve all the
needs of the Recreation Area. Such as making sure the equipment was still
close enough to the swim area so that parents could still watch their children
play from the beach, while also positioning the equipment in such a way that
parents who were watching baseball games, at Memorial Field, had a line of
vision to the play structure so that they could see their children. In
addition, the new location will be much closer to the Picnic Pavilion than it
is now, making it more convenient for the people renting the pavilion to keep
an eye their kids. Recreation Committee, Chairman Rob Ketcham, has volunteered
to take on the responsibilities as project coordinator. He has looked at the
plans, and with the help of the Recreation Director, will plan out work
schedule. May 1, 2004 has been selected as a possible date as to installing
the play equipment. Mr. Adams noted that May 1st is Green Up Day,
but the Recreation Committee did not see any conflicts with their personal
schedules. Mr. Adams informed the Recreation Committee that before any
digging began he would double check with Bruce Babcock as to the exact
location of the water line feeding the bathhouse and exactly how far away from
that line would he like to see that structure. NEW BUSINESS 2004 Recreation Area Fees Mr. Adams reported that the 2004 Recreation Area fees that
the Recreation Committee proposed to the Selectboard were unanimously approved
at their March 31, 2004 Selectboard meeting. Alcohol Consumption on Town Properties Mr. Adams informed the
Recreation Committee that he had sent a memo to the Selectboard forwarding a
request of a local resident if they could serve alcohol if they rented the
Recreation Area for their wedding/reception this summer. The Recreation
Director also mentioned in the memo that as more and more people discover what
a wonder place the Recreation Area is, the more he is questioned about the
serving alcohol at parties. Mr. Adams reported the Recreation Committee that
at the March 24, 2004 Selectboard meeting the board decided that rental
parties who want to have a bar can do so, however it must be catered by a
State of VT liquor license holder, and the renter must hire a constable or
special officer to be on duty during the event. With no further business to discuss, Scott Kirby made the
motion to adjourn the meeting Kathy Shortsleeves seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 7:30pm. *MONDAY,
